Addington High Profile Show 11th - 13th January

Oldencraig client Sam Francis's Artist was a little tense in the Inter 2 with it being his first time back in the arena since August. Hedid manage to perform a clean test but was not particularly settled. The experoience proved worthwhile due to the absense of any Arena Walks as he was much more confident in the Grand Prix earning a very positive score of 71.58% even incorporating a few minor mistakes. Vicky was delighted with his performance especially as it was only his second Grand Prix performance and he showed his flair to finish on a very credible 3rd place next to his stable mate Mango Jacaro, also owned by Sam.

Mango Jacaro came in close second place with a solid 72.8% . Coming back well after a good Winter of training. He showed that he is still improving and Vicky was very happy with the lovely ride he gave .

A great start for both Sam's horses to the 2019 Season

Bury Farm Summer Festival and high profile show 21st-23rd August 2018

Oldencraig client sam Fancis’s Artist made his debut at Grandprix and the Bury Farm high profile show Vicky was delighted with second place and a score of 69.40% only narrowly being beaten by 0.006 %. He was unlucky to have had to deal with the steward coming out of a dark corner, collecting score sheets just as he was doing rein back at C which distracted him, disturbing his concentration. Otherwise he made a splendid effort and tried so hard. Giving a correct clear round and some lovely, stylish Piaffe work. Vicky was extremely proud of him and I think he was proud of himself as it has been a very long journey. Artist confirmed his confidence by finishing second again on the following day in his second Grand Prix, only to be beaten by his much more experienced stable mate the lovely expressive Mango Jacaro, also owned by Sam Francis. Jacaro gave a really polished test showing good relaxation and expression, after a rather difficult show in the bad weather at Hickstead a couple of weeks previously.

Oldencraig Advanced rider Nathalie Wahlund placed 4th with 66.42%in the Medium Silver with Penny Brinsley's Oldencraig Echo and a fabulous Second in the medium with 70.81% qualifying them for the National Championships.

Well done team OEC!!

Hartpury CDI 3rd-8th July 2018

Vicky Thompson Winfield took Sam Francis’s super boys Artist and Mango Jacaro to Hartpury CDi, along with Nathalia Checkmareva’s Exquisite. Artist gave a really solid and secure ride producing a clean and active PSG test achieving 71% and 3rd place. On the second day he produced another clean test this time in the Inter 1 showing a lot more expression and energy giving a vibrant performance, finishing close second on 71%. Unfortunately in the Freestyle he became rather over excited and nervous and had a few uncharacteristic mistakes which was a shame.

Exquisite produced another reliable PSG on the first day to score 70% with a clean test. He tried very hard in the heat and was really sensible considering the busy atmosphere and Vicky was delighted that he still remained focused on his job. The Inter 1 was another good test although he sadly lost his balance in the first pirouette proving expensive.

Mango Jacaro was a real star in the Grand Prix on the first day with the judges all on 70% or very close. He was so much fun and a real pleasure to ride performing all the movements very comfortably earning some lovely comments from the judges.

Vicky was really looking forward to the freestyle, however, Jacaro got a little too excited and the very loud music didn’t really help. Unfortunately the test was very tense and hectic which spoilt it for him, especially as he was so good in the Grand Prix the day before. There are always up’s and down’s in this sport and it will all be good experience leading up to Hickstead.

Hickstead CDIO / CDI 26-29 July 2018

It was a steaming show with temperatures topping 35 degrees over the first few days.

For the Small tour Artist and exquisite were on good form, but despite the warm weather Artist felt rather exuberant and made silly balance mistakes in extended trot. Being a little distracted in such close company worked out expensive and he placed fairly low.

Exquisite was very well behaved in the arena but had not really settled well after the warm up. It was a difficult call wanting to conserve energy and not overdo it in the extreme heat. This cost marks with his focus and attention being affected but Vicky was happy with his marks which improved very little in the Inter 1 although he still had some uncharacteristic mistakes.

On Friday Vicky rode Sam Francis’s Stallion Mango Jacaro in the Nations Cup Grand Prix. Jacaro gave Vicky a fun, pleasing and confident clear round. He is maturing into a very reliable ride being much more established and consistent in the arena. In the freestyle the pair were extremely unlucky to have to perform their test during the worst storm of the summer. The heavens opened and the winds blew taking most of the arena with it and even for such a steady chap like jacaro this was a little too much and really shocked him. Vicky’s quick thinking avoided a complete disaster and she rode an ‘improvised’ floor plan bringing him back to his delightful self. Vicky and Jacaro finished on 69%, well down on his usual freestyle score, however, the team still managed second place in the Nations Cup. Vicky was delighted and honoured to have been given the opportunity to ride in The Nations Cup and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Hickstead premier league 19th-23rd June

Vicky Thompson-Winfield took Oldencraig client Sam Francis’s beautiful stallion Mango Jacaro and Nathalia Checkmareva’s stunning stallion Exquisite to the Hickstead Premier League.
It was another fabulous show for all the horses. On the first day Exquisite was a little unsettled in the Inter 1 and had several minor inaccuracies but nothing disastrous scoring 67.94%. This proved to be a good warm up for the next test as exquisite got his highest PSG score to date with a super settled clean test coming second with 71.89%.
On the Thusrday Vicky rode the PSG first, Exquisite was energetic but really listening showing some well balanced and supple work, improving on the day before achieving first place with 72.76% topping a very strong class. The judges are scoring him with 8’s and 9’s now which is amazing in such a short time. Vicky and the team are very excited for this talented horse’s future with this being his first show season.
In the Grand Prix Mango Jacaro put in another solid performance to earn 5th place and 69.28% with the scores from 2nd to 5th all in the 69% range so a very close result. Vicky is very happy with Mango Jacaro’s progress this year and his performance. He is gaining more confidence and relaxation which allows Vicky to ask him to be more expressive which she is delighted with.

Bolesworth CDI 11th-13th June 2018

Vicky Thompson- Winfield rode Oldencraig client Nathalia Chekmareva’s stunning Stallion Exquisite in the Small tour at Bolesworth CDI. Exquisite was super well behaved with a little tension, understandably considering it was his first International competition after participating in only 3 shows prior to this. There were no real errors and he tried his heart out beating many horses of several years more experience of major events. In such a big arena he took it all in his stride! He came 3rd in the PSG with 69.9% with Charlotte Du Jardin taking 1st and second place. In the Inter1 freestyle, Exquisite’s first ever (after only one ride through as they were only confirmed as an entry on the Friday before!) scored one of his best scores at this level to finish on 71% and 6th. Vicky was so very happy with him as he tried so hard, with no real mistakes or nerves he coped so well, amazing results for so early in his career. His future looks very exciting as the judges seemed to really appreciate his talent.

Wellington Premier League 6th-10th June 2018

Vicky Thompson-Winfield took Sam Francis’s gorgeous Spanish Stallion Mango Jacaro and Nathalia Checkmareva’s Stunning Stallion Exquisite to Wellington Premier League.
Exquisite performed a solid, clean test in the PSG coming first in a very large class of 43 starters. Despite being a new comer to performing he was relaxed and super obedient to shine in such a huge class of talented horses. It was a tense day as he was first to go at 10am and he held the lead right up to 5pm when the class finished. Vicky was utterly delighted with him and his super approach to his work. In the Inter 1 with a couple of little mistakes they still managed third place with 69.07% and he still has a lot more power and balance to come at this level. It is very exciting that Exquisite is getting such positive comments from the judges and equally such high marks!
Mango Jacaro produced another fluent and correct test in the Grand Prix being rewarded with 2nd pace with 69.9% in the Grand Prix. He is beginning to show more relaxation with his work and the extra expression is starting to show. Vicky was super pleased with him and is excited for his future as there are plenty more marks to come.

Addington Premier league 11-13/5/2018

Addington Premier League 11th-13th May Vicky took Oldencraig client Sam Francis’s Artist and Mango Jacaro and Nathalia Chekmareva’s Exquisite D to Addington premier League and was delighted with all three horse’s performances.
Exquisite tried his heart out and earnt some splendid scores for his PSG classes winning 2 with 69.52%and 70% respectively and coming 4th in the Inter 1, all the small tour classes were strongly contested with almost 40 starters every day, a fabulous learning experience for him.
Artist once again gave Vicky a great ride in the Inter 1 on the second day, being much more settled and focused to earn a super score of 72.63% and first place.
Jacaro was super cool in the Grand Prix and presented himself very comfortably to score 68% and raised his game with a more expressive freestyle to get another great score of 73.41% and second place.
Oldencraig Chief rider Shaun O Sullivan, trained by Vicky, rode Yuri Jinno’s Choice making good progress with a top score of 68% and 7th place in the PSG over the three days. They are looking a lot more confident as a team, although still a few nervous moments, Choice is learning how to deal with a busy environment and his balance and concentration is improving with every outing.
Oldencraig advanced rider Nathalie Wahlund, trained by Vicky, rode John Evans’s Cerano Gold gaining a top score of 67.21% and 9th place in the PSG. This is great for Nathalie and Cerano being their first Premier league. They have gained a lot of valuable experience and confidence. A good few days at the office!

Keysoe Premier league 27-29/4/2018

Keysoe premier league got off to a very damp and cold start with heavy rain. On Friday all horses were a little unsettled but managed to place in very large classes. On Saturday Vicky rode Oldencraig client Nancy Raff’s charming and much loved mare Salome di Fontabetti producing a solid, clean test gaining just over 70% in the Inter 1 to come third in a strong field of 40 competitors. On Sunday the cheeky and talented palomino gelding Artist owned by Sam Francis was much more relaxed and settled down to a super test winning the Inter 2 with 69%. Nathalia Chekmareva’s stunning stallion Exquisite didn’t disappoint settling into a pleasing rhythm to produce his best test of the show gaining 72% and second place in the PSG with a few green mistakes. Vicky was delighted with all three horses who have all progressed and produced improved performances throughout the show in large classes with quality competition. She was especially pleased with Exquisite who is new to competing away from home and improved in confidence significantly.
Shaun O’Sullivan and Yuri Jinno’s gorgeous gelding Oldencraig Choice, trained by Vicky, also produced their most confident performance to date scoring a fabulous 69% and 6th place in the Inter 1.

Oldencraig Affiliated Dressage 20/4/2018

Vicky Thompson Winfield rode the stunning black stallion owned by Nathalia Checkmareva in the gold section of the PSG. It was a good warm up for this attractive pair for their upcoming premier league at Keysoe which will be Exquisite’s first outing away from home. They scored a respectable 70.39% and pleasing judge Marion Terry. Vicky is delighted with the way this huge character of a horse is going, he is one to watch for the future.

Addington High Profile Show 12th-14th January 2018

The first completion of the year was a great success. I took Sam Francis’s super gelding Artist to compete in the Inter 2 and Inter 1 classes and Oldencraig client, Donella Torcassi's lovely mare Salome to compete in the PSG and Inter 1 classes.

Artist performed an enthusiastic First inter 2 showing great talent for Piaffe and Passage. Just a couple of very minor mistakes from a lapse in concentration but I was so delighted with him as this is a new level of work to Artist and I was really happy that he tried so hard.

On the second day in the Inter 1 Artist was a little more relaxed and although we still had 3 minor mistakes his quality of work is clearly much improved and mature as he still went on to win the class with 71.18% in a very strong field.

It was my first time competing Salome and I was delighted with her attitude towards her work, On the first day she performed a lovely PSG test coming second with 70.79% in very strong company. She then went on to compete in the Inter 2 the following day and came 7th with 67.11% she coped well with the atmosphere and tried so hard to please, especially as she is very inexperienced at competing, I am very excited about this charming mare’s future and look forward to the next show.

They then went on to compete in the hotly contested Inter 1 and Artist did well gaining 70.29%. In his final class- the Inter 1 Freestyle, after a brilliant warm up the heavens opened and it almost looked like Vicky and Artist would have to swim down the centre line! The judges had to de mist their cars and put the windscreen wipers on to be able to see! In spite of the difficult circumstances Vicky and Artist pulled off a great performance and were delighted to end on a great score of 72.91% and 6th place.
Later on in the afternoon Mango Jacaro put on his dancing shoes for the Grand Prix. After a few moments of tension he settled down he put in a good performance and qualified for the Grand Prix Freestyle with 67.74%.

Congratulations to Vicky Thompson Winfield and Sam Francis's delightful palomino gelding Artist for qualifying for the horse of the year show October 2017.

HICKSTEAD INTERNATIONAL CDIO 3* 27-30 JULY 2017

Vicky Thompson-Winfield and Oldencraig Chief rider Shaun O’Sullivan took three horses to HICKSTEAD INTERNATIONAL CDIO 3*, Vicky was riding Oldencraig client Sam Francis horse Artist in the PSG and Inter 1 and her second ride as a member of the Nations cup team for Great Britain, Mango Jacaro in the GP and GP Freestyle.

Shaun rode Oldencraig client Yuri Jinno’s Oldencraig Choice in the PSG and Inter 1, in their first international competition together. On the first day the weather held out and they had splendid sunshine for the PSG, Vicky was first to go on Artist in a class of 34 and went on to score a brilliant 71.71% and she lead the class throughout the day to the very end only being beaten by Charlotte Du Jardin.

Shaun and Oldencraig Choice put in a solid performance and Choice showed great maturity in the atmosphere gaining 67.65% and placing 16th (with Stephan Clarke awarding them just shy of 70% (69.60%)) Choice has only been at this level for a short amount of time and this being his first International both his owner Yuri and Shaun were very pleased, as was Shaun’s trainer Vicky Thompson-Winfield. On Friday the weather wasn’t as kind with wind, rain and a bit of sunshine thrown in the mix all at the same time. Today it was the Inter 1 to be contested with a strong field of 33 competitors, again Vicky was first to go. Today was judges training day around the arena, which quite a few of the horses took exception to or more correctly to the placement of the very scary chairs that suddenly appeared overnight…

Vicky again did a very professional job of guiding Artist round despite his obvious displeasure to said chairs and they went on to gain a score of 66.18%. Shaun and Choice also had difficulty with the chairs (as did half the class) but went on to gain 63.76%. both Vicky and Shaun were pleased that the horses showed improved maturity in the ring coping with outside influences, but wished they were in the second half of the class after the chairs had been removed… but that’s just the luck of the draw.

Vicky also rode Mango Jacaro in the GP as a member of the Nation’s cup team for Great Britain, Mango Jacaro showed some tension today in the Piaffe/Passage transitions and thought the extended trot was better done in extended canter but they scored 66.04% even with the tension.

Saturday was a free day from competing so Vicky concentrated on trying to get Jacaro to relax in the atmosphere in time for the Sunday and the GP Special. They rode to a James Bond melody of music with a show stopping circle of two tempi changes straight into one Tempis with much improved relaxation shown in the Piaffe/Passage transitions but again today there were a few moments of tension in some parts but they still went on to gain a very respectable 68.42%.

Congratulations to Vicky Thompson-Winfield and Mango Jacaro for being selected to represent Great Britain in the CDiO Nations Cup.

Congratulations to Vicky Thompson-Winfield for being selected to represent Great Britain in The CDiO Nations Cup at Hickstead alongside team members Anna Ross Davies, Emma Hindle and Becky Moody. Vicky will be riding Oldencraig client Sam Francis's super talented and stunning, Spanish Stallion, Mango Jacaro.
We wish them all the very best of luck!

Roll-up for the fabulous Hickstead International and Nations Cup

TEAM HICKSTEAD is beavering away to ensure Hickstead International 2017 (27-30 July) is worthy of the title “Jewel in the crown of dressage in the South” and live up to its reputation as the most popular and best-known British show across the Channel, across the Irish Sea and across the Atlantic!

Hickstead’s founder and director Dane Rawlins is proud to say: “The big news is the 1000 Club!” This idea was supported and promoted from the beginning by Britain’s top man of dressage, Carl Hester. Dane continued: “Hickstead must be one of the only shows in the world that is almost entirely and as widely supported by riders, owners and trainers.” He told Out and About Dressage that membership of 1000 Club has reached 47 individuals determined to ensure the return of the Hickstead international after lack of funds forced the show to be cancelled in 2016. He added they have joined long-standing and very generous friends, the Bechtolsheimer family: “They have always been there for us.”

Among newer 1000 Club members is Sam Francis who owns Mango Jacaro, the top Pura Raza Española (PRE) grand prix horse worldwide ridden Vicki Thompson-Winfield to win both the grand prix and the grand prix special at the recent Hickstead Premier League, see image above.

Martin Collins’ support

Dane added that one business, prominent in the sport, was not found wanting, Martin Collins International. Dane explained: “Just before the Hickstead Regionals we decided that two of our surfaces weren’t up to our usual high standard so I rang Martin Collins who found the time to come over personally to inspect them and immediately went into action. The surfaces were lifted and replaced as part of his company’s five-year sponsorship deal with us. His surfaces are the best and he ensures that Hickstead arenas always measure up to the very high Martin Collins’ standard.”

Ian Winfield does it handsomely

Dane added: “Oldencraig’s proprietor Ian Winfield has been brilliant. He’s enthused a lot people and got them on board to support the show with him and he wants to do more to help us again next year. He is an example of what all dressage enthusiasts should be doing. The Netherlands team boss Rien van der Schaft said to me when we were discussing Dutch participation, ‘We must help each other, this is a global sport. It’s not owned by one nation or just a handful of riders’.”

Nations Cup 2017 final contest

This year’s Hickstead international will be the final round in the eight-leg 2017 Nations Cup series. Hickstead joined the series late due to the uncertainty surrounding its viability but four nations have fielded teams to show support and take up the challenge: USA, France, The Netherlands and Great Britain. As well as the CDIO3* Nations Cup, classes will be run all the way down through Small Tour to Young Riders, Juniors and Ponies.

Five star judges

According to Dane, over 50 per cent of competitors will be from overseas — making the classes truly international contests — but, he stresses, “We are trying to ensure that as many Brits and Irish riders who would like to compete are given the chance to do so. And all five of the judges for the grand prix will be five star judges and they will, of course, be judging other classes as well, so riders will have test opinions from five of the most knowledgeable judges in the world!”

Horse & Hound support

In recognition of the importance of supporting this date in the dressage calendar Britain’s leading equestrian weekly Horse & Hound will have two journalists attending the show to ensure four-day coverage of the event.

All fans of the sport (and Art) of dressage out there: come along and show your support, too. Enjoy watching top dressage performances from the comfort of the hospitality marquee or free grandstand seating and listen to expert commentary on your headset. Then celebrate in style and dress up for the “Glitz and Glam” Hickstead Summer Party in aid Chestnut Tree House, the only hospice for children in Sussex.

Hickstead Summer Regionals 14-16/7/2017

Oldencraig’s Chief rider Shaun o’Sullivan took Oldencraig client Yuri Jinno's stunning Grandson of the great Donnerhall, Oldencraig Choice to the Hickstead Summer regionals. The pair put in a great performance with Choice showing improved maturity in the ring. The scores varied from 67% to 64% with a final score of 65.83% and placing 4th over all in the Inter 1. The judges commented on his super presence in the ring and a talented horse that needs to take more weight on the hind legs to gain better marks.>

Hartpury Festival of Dressage – CDI3* 5/7/2017 – 9/7/2017

Vicky was selected to ride at the Hartpury Festival of dressage riding Sam Hick’s super horses Artist and Mango Jacaro.
It was a bit of a mixed bag with Artist starting really well with 3rd place in the PSG with 70.658% on the first day. Sadly and uncharacteristically he became more unsettled in the arena and slipped down the placings on the 2nd and 3rd day with 68.50% in the Inter 1 and 66.75 in the inter 1 freestyle.
Mango Jacaro was rather excitable on the first day and Vicky had to ride a carful test scoring 68.920% in the Grand prix. He settled as the days went on and on the third day he produced a more solid and thorough test in the Grand Prix Special to score well, 69.88% with just one error to finish in a very respectable and close 5th place which Vicky was really pleased with.

Hickstead Premier League & Dressage Masters Championships 20-24/6/2017

Vicky Thompson Winfield had a super successful weekend competing Oldencraig client Sam Francis’s talented Spanish stallion Mango Jacaro at the Hickstead Premier League & Dressage Masters Championships. Not to be out done by his stable mate Artist who has been doing so well recently, Vicky and the striking Mango Jacaro won the Grand Prix with 71.16% on Saturday and then went on to take the Grand Prix Special title with a fabulous 73.33%. It is great to see the dedication and hard work that Vicky puts into her horses paying off.
Also competing in the PSG and Int 1 was ldencraig Senior rider Shaun O'Sullivan on Oldencraig client Yuri Jinno's stunning gelding Oldencraig Choice. This was Choice and Shaun's second Premier League competition and Choice took the atmosphere in his stride to deliver 7th place in the Inter 1 with 66.45%

Bolesworth International CDI*** 15/06/2017

Vicky Thompson-Winfield was invited to compete at the Bolesworth International CDI ***.  Vicky was delighted with Artist who is gaining in confidence with every outing. He came 3rd with a good score of 70.375 % , he behaved very well and
coped with the big arena and scary flower pots in the wind, proving that he is starting to become more confident in the arena .  A long trip for him but the good weather made it a very enjoyable show in lovely surroundings definitely worth the trip.

FEI Roosendaal CD14* 31/05/2017 - 04/06/2017

Artist stepped into the limelight at Roosendaal, placing in the top ten small tour.

Artist

PSG Artist total 67.632%
E- 68.816  H- 70.132 C- 67.763  M- 64.474 B- 66.97  7th out of 16

Artist was pleasingly Steady throughout the test, he just spooked at end of the 3x, however, I was really delighted with him .

INT 1  Artist total 69.579%
E-70.789  H-70.921 C- 68.553 M- 70.132 B- 67.500 4th place

Artist was more relaxed and therefore more forward. We had a little mistake in the beginning of the 3 tempi.  But overall a really good ride.

INT 1 freestyle to music Total 70.910% Result -7 th place

E-70.550. H-70.875 C-71.375. M71.875 B-69.875

I was very happy with the test as he was quite nervous in some places. Unfortunately he did a dropping while doing the left canter Pirouette and there were some tiny hesitation moments where he was just not quite sure of himself. He gave a very good effort in a very noisy arena.  A great experience for him and everybody loved how stunningly beautiful and charming he is!  the judges  were very complimentary of him and his way of going - especially as he was the youngest one in the class! Very proud of him!

Mango Jacaro

Grand Prix total 67.920%

E-70.200. H-69.100

C-65.800. M-66.200

B- 68.300 11th place from 28 starters

I was really pleased with Jacaro for giving me a steady clear round. We Dropped some marks in our usual high marking half passes as I kept the tempo a bit too slow, but I was really happy with the overall performance and we achieved some really high marks in places so lots to build on.

GP freestyle Unfortunately Jacaro got a bit over excited with the arena and showed a little too much exuberance for his balance so lost lots of points today, he did get better as the test went on. I thought he was tired so I only gave him a little walk the day before and in the morning, so now I know to keep him working no matter how he feels! A valuable although expensive lesson!! A real shame but it was his first big event and he did try to stay with me, not really all his fault, he is normally so reliable but I  judged the preparation wrong , so a painful learning experience. The judges gave him some great marks where they could and we all remain very positive.

Addington Manor premier League 12th - 14th May 2017

Artist was really settled and produced a secure and enthusiastic, clean Inter 1 test achieving some really high marks, especially in his trot work which is becoming more balanced and therefore supple. Vicky was delighted with Artist’s attitude and he won the class with 72.68% which ended up being the highest score of the entire show! The Prix St George was another solid test and secured another great score of 71.71% out of a strong field of 39 competitors.
Mango Jackaro was a little on his toes in the Grand prix so had a little more tension. He still produced some super half passes and Piaffe gaining very high scores. There were a couple of concentration errors but Jackaro still managed 2nd place and 67.97% amongst a strong, talented field. The striking pair then went on to come second in the Grand Prix Music with 70.48%.
We are very excited to announce that Vicky and Mango Jackaro are now eligible for the Europeans.

Addington Manor premier League article from Horse and Hound

On form rider Vicky Thompson-Winfield enjoyed a 100% strike rate with her striking palomino partner, Artist. The pair won section 2 of Saturday’s Saracen Horse Feeds Intermediate I and Sunday’s Fairfax Saddles Prix St Georges with 72.68% and 71.71% respectively. The nine-year-old Danish-bred gelding placed second in the Prix St Georges at Keysoe CDI earlier in the year.
Artist is owned by Oldencraig client Samantha Francis who also owns Vicky’s big tour ride, Mango Jacaro.

KEYSOE PREMIER LEAGUE 27-30 APRIL 2017

Vicky Thompson-Winfield took Oldencraig client Sam Francis’s Stunning Spanish Stallion Mango Jackaro and gorgeous gelding Artist to the Keysoe Premier League. Vicky was supported by Oldencraig Chief rider Shaun O’Sullivan who took the ride on the lovely Oldencraig Choice for proud owner and Oldencraig client Yuri Jinno.
On the first day Artist was a little tense and cautious in the PSG but still produced a solid test to finish very close to the top 3 with 69.21%. In the inter one on the second day he had a lot more confidence and therefore was much more expressive with good energy to produce some of his best work so far, gaining the picture perfect pair 2nd place with 70%!
Mango Jackaro performed accurate, solid tests to gain several 8’s for Piaffe and transitions, the Passage work is developing well and becoming more consistent and relaxed and Vicky was delighted with his progress and attitude to his work. The stunning pair came 3rd in the GP and won the GP Freestyle with a fabulous 75.4%. Mango Jackaro also received his second gold medal to qualify for the Spanish Horse International Championship.
It was Shaun’s first time competing Choice at a premier league and apart from some green, inattentive moments disturbing fluency in the PSG on the first day Choice was very well behaved and Vicky and Shaun were very pleased with his performance. On the second day Choice was much more confident in the inter 1 and again beautifully behaved. The pirouettes and changes were correct and well performed and the very striking pair went on to gain a very respectable 66.3%. Super results for a first big show out!

Keysoe British Dressage CDIPJYR 17-19 March 2017

KEYSOE CDI 17-19 MARCH 2017

Vicky Thompson Winfield was selected to ride Oldencraig client Sam Francis's stunning Palomino gelding Artist and talented Stallion Mango Jackaro at Keysoe CDI. Vicky was pleased with both horses performances over the weekend gaining the following results

MANGO JACKARO

Grand Prix 4th with 67.6%.

Grand Prix Freestyle 5th with 67.52%

ARTIST

PSG 2nd with 69.187%

INTER 1 65.9%

INTER 1 FREESTYLE 6th with 69.425%

Artist was pleasingly focused and well behaved producing a steady accurate PSG test. On the second day he became a little distracted in the Inter 1 and inconsistent in his attention so lost a few points with silly minor mistakes. In the freestyle he was more fluid and only had one little mistake and he got his confidence back to finish very close to the top with a good solid score. This lovely horse grows in confidence and stature after each outing and I am delighted with the way he is going.
Jackaro produced a super, calm and accurate test in the Grand Prix gaining a good solid score of 67.187%. In the freestyle his technical marks were all 7's and 8's and it was a much crisper, sharper test with 8's for Piaffe. It was unfortunate that there was a technical blip with the music and the cd jammed at the end. The judges were not clear as to how to mark this situation and sadly they decided that they were unable to mark the music section above a 5 or 6 which reflected highly in the overall score as there are 4 marks in this section. This was really disappointing and dropped Jackaro out of a potential top placing. Despite this I was really happy with the improvement in the technical marks! Next Time!

SAUMUR CDI FRANCE 5/10/2016

THE WAY WE WERE

SAUMUR CDI 22nd-25th September 2016

Vicky Thompson Winfield took Toni Terry’s stallion Beltoni and Sam Francis’s stallion Mango Jackaro and her palomino gelding Artist to compete for GB in the Psg and Grand Prix at Saumur CDI.

Beltoni performed an exciting PSG test. He was obedient and fluent opening the test to gain an impressive score of 70.263%. He was leading this big class until the penultimate competitor pipped him to the post moving Beltoni into second place. Beltoni’s stablemate Artist performed a steady test to place equal 7th with 68.07% in a strong field of 26 horses. Everybody was delighted with both horses and their performances.

Mango Jackaro and Vicky made their debut International Grand Prix with a solid clear round, qualifying them for the music freestyle the next day.

Jackaro was very at ease with his surroundings and the exciting atmosphere, and made a faultless test, the highlight being the 2 x tempi changes on a circle straight into 1 x, unfortunately just before the end of the test the music cut out due to a technical fault, Vicky carried on regardless and finished the test without music. This test scored a fabulous 70.2% and the pair were gived some super comments by the judges. The crowd also showed their appreciation by giving Vicky and Jackaro a standing ovation! Vicky and Sam were so thrilled that everybody enjoyed his test so much and they are looking forward to a great season next year.

Beltoni and Artist both ‘found their feet’ on the second day and were quite distracted by the long walk from the stables to the arena. They had to walk past mares, foals and young stock being presented for their classes so sadly both dropped marks for uncharacteristic lack of attention which was such a shame.

Artist qualified for the music class the next day, he was still a little immature however, Vicky was very pleased with 67.2%. It was a fabulous experience for him and the other horses moving forward into next year.

LeMieux National Dressage Championships 2016

Vicky Thompson-Winfield took Oldencraig client Sam Francis’s stunning Spanish Stallion Mango Jackaro, Sam’s beautiful Palomino gelding Artist and Oldencraig client Toni Terry’s talented stallion Beltoni to the Le Mieux National Dressage Championships.

Jackaro competed in the Championship Inter 2 class and Artist and Beltioni in the Championship Inter 1. Vicky is taking all three horses to compete under the British Flag in Saumur France this week. We wish them all the very best of luck!
